Firstly, who is Murray? And how do you like to describe your art?
My art style could be described as mixed media fusions that capture the essence of life around the world. Each piece brings the outside world into the artwork, combining my visions and impressions of the world with actual fragments and physical remnants derived from it. Whether it be through street posters or old newspapers, the notion of incorporating things from the outside world into each piece is something I’ve always liked to do. This allows the world to be not only captured through paint but actually be a first hand collaborator with the artwork.
Talk us through your creative process, where do you start?
The art starts for me outside. Whilst going around Australia and the world I have collected a large amount of posters ripped from the streets as well as other interesting and old remnants of paper. From there they are brought to the studio, which actually takes a few forms. At times my studio has been in my backpack, other times it’s set up in my camper van. At times it’s even a more stationary set up in home. The artwork then comes out of these experiences as what is found and where it is made reveals itself through oil and acrylic paint.
